Eleanor Haine is Director, Agri food and Natural Resources at Genome Canada, where she leads national strategies and partnerships that advance genomics applications in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and natural resource management. She focuses on connecting science, policy, and sector priorities to shape and steward mission-driven priorities that support a healthier, more sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous Canada.
Before joining Genome Canada, Eleanor was Senior Policy Advisor at Environment and Climate Change Canada, leading whole-of-government development of the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy and designing large scale public engagement processes. Previously, she led natural sciences programs at the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, advancing national and international sustainability and open science initiatives.
Eleanor holds a PhD in Evolutionary Ecology from Imperial College London, a BA in Natural Sciences (Genetics) from the University of Cambridge, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Science Education from the University of Sheffield. She is a member of the advisory board for the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society Ottawa Valley chapter.
