Decoding the Future of Canadian Healthcare.

We are building Canada’s largest human genomic data resource to enable personalized, predictive, and preventative care for all Canadians regardless of geography or identity.

Genomics now gives us the power to develop more personalized healthcare, but to realize these benefits, we need vast amounts of connected human genome sequencing data.

Today, our health data is often trapped in provincial or institutional silos, preventing clinicians and innovators from accessing the scale of information needed for medical breakthroughs. Generating and connecting data across Canada’s federated healthcare systems requires serious leadership and coordination.

The Canadian Precision Health Initiative is the national solution: we are coordinating a focused campaign to build the largest ever human genomic data resource and a national governance system. By sequencing 100,000 human genomes and creating a secure, sovereign governance system, we are transforming Canada’s health innovation industries into a unified national asset.

Mission At A Glance

TARGET
100,000
Genomes
Building one of Canada’s largest coordinated health data resources.

Rather than funding isolated projects, we design coherent portfolios aimed at changing how healthcare is delivered.

The Pan-Canadian Genome Library (PCGL)

Secure Canada’s digital sovereignty and national security by investing in genomics as strategic national infrastructure.

Clinical Integration (All for One)

Integrating genome-wide sequencing directly into clinical care to improve life for people with rare genetic diseases by providing faster, life-saving diagnoses.

Equitable Data Governance

Implementing ethical, responsible policies to ensure trusted access for Canadian researchers and industry while respecting Indigenous data sovereignty.

Cancer and Chronic Disease Innovation

Accelerating faster, more precise diagnoses and personalized care pathways for cancer and other complex chronic diseases.

National Strategy.
Regional Excellence.

We leverage the unique expertise and provincial partnerships of our regional Genome Centres to break through provincial barriers. This strategic orchestration ensures that national missions are informed by regional needs, ensuring the benefits of precision health reach all Canadians equitably. We turn distributed efforts into a collective national advantage.

Transforming Genomic Data into Actionable Intelligence.

Rectangle 11 Canada’s leadership in Artificial Intelligence depends on access to high-value, trusted data.

Rectangle 11 Genomic data is AI-ready by design: it is structured, longitudinal, and deeply contextual, making it a premier asset in the digital economy.

Rectangle 11 By aligning genomics with Canada’s AI and digital strategies, we translate research excellence into deployable AI tools that allow clinicians to match patients to treatments on the first try.
