Le Canada a cependant acquis une expertise de pointe dans le diagnostic rapide et exact des maladies infectieuses, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la nanotechnologie.<\/p>\n<p style=\"width:101%\">M. Kevin C. Kain, chercheur principal \u00e0 la division de m\u00e9decine g\u00e9nomique au General Research Institute de Toronto, et directeur du McLaughlin-Rotman Center, et M. Michael Greenberg, FIO Corp, sont les directeurs du projet Diagnostic \u00e0 l\u2019aide des points quantiques : profilage simultan\u00e9 en g\u00e9nomique et en prot\u00e9omique des agents pathog\u00e8nes multiples aux points de service. L\u2019\u00e9quipe de recherche int\u00e9grera les progr\u00e8s de la nanotechnologie \u00e0 la g\u00e9nomique et \u00e0 la prot\u00e9omique des agents pathog\u00e8nes, afin de cr\u00e9er un syst\u00e8me de diagnostic \u00e0 haut rendement capable de d\u00e9tecter en l\u2019espace de quelques minutes des maladies infectieuses multiples d\u2019ampleur mondiale.<\/p>\n<p style=\"width:101%\">Le syst\u00e8me est bas\u00e9 sur les points quantiques \u2013 de minuscules sondes fluorescentes qui peuvent \u00eatre utilis\u00e9es comme biomarqueurs pour \u00e9tiqueter les mol\u00e9cules organiques et les suivre pendant le processus biologique. L\u2019\u00e9quipe de recherche pr\u00e9voit \u00e9laborer un syst\u00e8me de diagnostic sp\u00e9cifiquement pr\u00e9vu pour les points de service, afin de d\u00e9tecter ou d\u2019exclure la pr\u00e9sence d\u2019agents pathog\u00e8nes li\u00e9s \u00e0 cinq grandes maladies infectieuses \u2013 le SRAS, le VIH\/sida, le paludisme, l\u2019h\u00e9patite B et l\u2019h\u00e9patite C. Le potentiel social et \u00e9conomique de ce syst\u00e8me novateur est d\u2019autant plus important que ces cinq maladies causent plus de deux milliards d\u2019infections et cinq millions de d\u00e9c\u00e8s partout dans le monde annuellement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"width:101%\">Le projet est structur\u00e9 en un pipeline continu de d\u00e9couvertes, ce qui permet d\u2019acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer la d\u00e9couverte d\u2019outils diagnostiques, de les commercialiser et de les utiliser dans le milieu clinique. Selon M. Kain, \u00ab l\u2019aptitude \u00e0 d\u00e9tecter ou \u00e0 exclure d\u00e9finitivement des agents pathog\u00e8nes multiples aux points de service, et ce en quelques minutes, serait une perc\u00e9e qui aurait des r\u00e9percussions sur notre syst\u00e8me de sant\u00e9, la qualit\u00e9 de la vie de la population canadienne et des collectivit\u00e9s mondiales \u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>(En anglais seulement.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Integrated GE<sup>3<\/sup>LS Research:<\/strong> Regulation and monitoring of convergent technologies<br \/>\n<strong>GE<sup>3<\/sup>LS Project Leaders<\/strong>: Abdallah Daar, University of Toronto<br \/>\n<u>Summary<\/u><br \/>\nThe team will systematically address the potential GE\u00b3LS issues stemming from the development and commercialization of the quantum dot (Qdot) diagnostic system, a high-throughput diagnostic system capable of detecting multiple global infectious disease threats at point-of-care; in 3 parts:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Public Engagement: The project team will develop and evaluate a public engagement tool for high school students and the general public that encompasses various emergent technologies and their application to infectious disease research.<\/li>\n<li>Regulation of the Convergence of Genomics, Proteomics and Nanotechnology: The project team will identify regulatory issues related to convergent technologies and work with Canadian regulatory authorities to develop regimes and guidelines on implementation of any standards that may be developed.
